Dear Jumps Racing Participants
With the closing of our 2025 AGM, I would like to begin by acknowledging the exceptional work of Sandy McGregor, who has served as our chairman for the past 10 years. As a passionate racing enthusiast, Sandy has played a pivotal role in driving numerous improvements that have laid the foundation for the success of jumps racing.
Through his company, Ecycle Solutions, Sandy has generously provided funding to ensure that the right people were engaged to lead key initiatives and support various sponsorships for clubs and operations within the sport. His contributions deserve to be recognised by the entire jumps racing community.
Among Sandy’s notable achievements are:
- The drive force behind supporting RV with the introduction of the OneFit Hurdles in Victoria and South Australia
- Leadership in OH&S, ensuring the safe transportation, storage, and installation of obstacles
- Ongoing refinements to the OneFit Hurdles for improved track management and safety
- Enhanced perceptions of the sport through the funding of and installation of new cameras and financial backing for this initiative
- Advancements in equine welfare, particularly in off-the-track programs
- Development and implementation of jumps jockey exchange programs, facilitating smoother transitions for jockeys joining Victoria
- Significant sponsorship for clubs hosting major jumps racing events, including Oakbank, Pakenham, Coleraine, Casterton, Hamilton, Sale, Ballarat, Warrnambool.
- The establishment of over 11 schooling lanes across various racing clubs, providing trainers with the proper facilities to school their horses
- Sponsorship of the Mosstrooper Awards, celebrating the achievements and contributions of the community
Sandy’s unwavering commitment to the sport reflects his passion and dedication, and his contributions will continue to resonate in the years to come.
As the newly appointed Chairman, I look forward to engaging with our community throughout the season. With my extensive experience at the Warrnambool Racing Club, both as Chairman and committee member, I am eager to continue working with Racing Victoria over the next three years. My commitment to the jumps racing industry, alongside the AJRA, is steadfast, and I am eager to ensure that we hold strong and encourage new participants to our sport.
As a supporting organisation to Racing Victoria we are a group of passionate horse people who are dedicated to our sport.
We are also pleased to welcome Jess Barton as Vice Chair, a fantastic addition to our team. Jess brings with her a wealth of experience and a skill set that will undoubtedly strengthen our leadership. Additionally, Marlee Horobin, who has been instrumental in supporting Sandy’s goals over the past seven years, has now stepped into the role of Secretary for a 12 month period. Having moved out of general management, Marlee’s deep knowledge of the community and dedication will be a tremendous asset in this new capacity.
Warm regards
Nick Rule
Chairman, AJRA
