Jumps Trials & Qualifications Now Easier In Time For South Australian Jumps Racing

In preparation for the 2020 Jumps Season, the Australian Jumps Racing Association announced a new program to incentivise trainers and owners to qualify their horses for jumps racing.

Due to costs and difficulties in getting horses educated and trialled for hurdles & steeplechases in SA, a number of jumps jockeys/trainer partnerships have offered to school and qualify the SA horses for a fee and return them qualified and ready to race.

With the support of Thoroughbred Racing South Australia and Oakbank Racing Club the goals is to increase local pool of jumpers by making the qualification process easier and cheaper.

Pateman Racing who are actively a part of the jumps racing upskilling program are one of three up and coming Victroian registered jumps trainers who are offering their service, contributing to the positive future of the sport.

Pateman’s Barwon Heads property is within riding distance to 13th Beach, a designated horse beach and the Little River property boasts a full equestrian style set up which provides a great schooling facility and is in close proximity to the You Yangs national park. Between these two properties and the Geelong track the horses get to experience an enormous amount of variety in their work.

Amy Mcdonald Racing & Richard Cully Racing both located at Ballarat also pride themselves on training each horse individually with the goal of having all horses well educated, fit, sound and happy.

Chairman of the AJRA, Sandy Mcgregor strongly advocates the program. “We have exceptional horseman & women in the jumps racing community. With prize money continually on the increase, we now need to increase the pool of horses and educate them fit and ready to race”

“It takes skill, dedication and time to educate a horse for jumps racing. I feel this solution decreases the costs and increases the potential of more owners and trainers to get involved in the sport”
